Close cooperation between Shanghai Shipyard and German Lashing
18.07.2006
In the last 12 months German Lashing has received Fixed Fittings orders for more than 100 New Buildings, allocated to 12 major Chinese shipyards, at sizes between 1.700 TEU and 10.000 TEU.
The close and fruitful cooperation between Shanghai Shipyard (now renamed as Shanghai Shipyard – Chengxi Shipyard Co., Ltd.) and German Lashing has to be highlighted with honour and pleasure. Ever since German Lashing started its activity in China in April 1998, every single order from Shanghai Shipyard has been placed at German Lashing. The companies worked successfully together on New Building projects such as 1.700 TEU, 2.000 TEU, 3.100 TEU, 3.500 TEU container carriers, 37.420 DWT and 48.000 DWT MPC.
Shanghai Shipyard, one of the leading enterprises subordinating to the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), was founded in 1862. Its predecessor was “British Union Shipyard”. After 140 years standing on the site now called Pudong Lujiazui Financial Centre, Shanghai Shipyard has been moved to Chongming Island, the third largest island of China. The Island is located at the mouth of the Yangtze River and faces East China Sea in the east. It is about 30 km air distance away from the centre of Shanghai City. The new site occupies an area about 975.000 m². It is planned to build 10 vessels of about 900.000 DWT per year; the annual turnover of ship repair will be at RMB 494 million for 162 vessels; and the amount of steel processing each year will be 161.300 tons.
German Lashing wish’s Shanghai Shipyard every good luck, great success and is looking forward to a continuation of the good relationship.
